 Dear Members,


I am pleased to mention that the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi visited this Chamber on January 08, 2018 to meet with the business community of Sialkot., The Prime Minister was accompanied by Khawaja Muhammad Asif - Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Professor Ahsan Iqbal - Federal Minister for Interior, and other key Government Functionaries.


Availing the presence of the Prime Minister, I highlighted the issues being faced by the business community regarding pendency in clearance of Sales Tax refunds, Custom Rebates & DLTL Claims and gave proposals for the betterment of the Industry of Sialkot including establishment of a high powered Export Monitoring/Development Committee under direct supervision of the Prime Minister, establishment of NUST University in Sialkot, Renovation of Road Infrastructure, Setting up of Passport & NADRA Executive offices at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry, One Window Facility for collection of all taxes and levies from the Exporters, Establishment of a State of the art Federal Hospital in Sialkot and a special grant for establishing Sialkot Tannery Zone.


On our demand for resolution of the issue of pending Sales Tax Refunds, Custom Rebates & DLTL Claims, His Excellency announced that all the pendency would be cleared by February 15, 2018, and process of claim clearance would be swifter in future.


Agreeing to the proposals, the Honorable Prime Minister expressed his commitment to work on all the recommendations and announced the establishment of Export Development Committee, Formation of Sector Specific Export Promotion Councils, and setting up of a state of the art Cancer Diagnostic Center in Sialkot. Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also affirmed that necessary efforts would be made in the infrastructure development of the city and request for a grant to Sialkot Tannery Zone from EDF would be worked upon.


The Federal Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Interior were also kind to announce the land allocation for NUST and Bahria Universities and setting up of Passport & NADRA Offices at Sialkot Chamber exclusive for the members.
