I am pleased to mention that the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi called a meeting of a business community delegation on December 15, 2017, wherein I had the opportunity to represent the business community of Sialkot. Availing the opportunity, I made sure that the key issues of Sialkot industry are heard and paid heed to by the Honorable Prime Minister and other key Functionaries.
I am pleased to mention that all the below mentioned issues/proposals were acknowledged by the Prime Minister with an assurance for resolution of the same as soon as possible.
1. PM INCENTIVE PACKAGE
Release of complete 180 (B) of the PM Incentive Package along with setting up of mechanism to process cases pertaining to SRO 1062. The Prime Minister assured that the mechanism of filing cases would be finalized within next week and improved disbursement of funds would be offered to facilitate the cases of exporters at earliest.
2. CLEARANCE OF PENDING DUTY DRAWBACK CLAIMS
Issue pertaining to delay in payment of Duty Drawback was highlighted in the meeting which was endorsed by Special Advisor to the PM on Revenue & Finance, Mr. Haroon Akhtar. It was mentioned with concern that the pendency in Sialkot is of one and a half year, which is quite disturbing and needs immediate attention for redressal in order to remove disparity and save export sector of Sialkot from further decline. The Prime Minister informed that the matter would be resolved soon to facilitate the Industry.
3. ISSUE OF DIRECT SHIPMENTS
Thanking the Honorable Prime Minister for his special consideration and favour in the resolution of the issue of Direct Shipments, vide FE Circular No. 11 of 2017 dated December 11, 2017, it was highlighted that the circular carries some conditions which would allow only the large-scale exporters to benefit from the facility. Thankfully, the Honorable Prime Minister was kind enough to direct the Secretary Finance for timely resolution of issue and removal of said conditions.
Dear Members, I along with my team believe that with the resolution of these key issues, we would be capacitated and capable to stop the declining trend of exports to boost and enhance them to match the competing markets. Again, I would like to mention that whatever we have achieved and whatever we will achieve in future is only because of your tremendous support and trust in the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry. I promise that during my tenure, I will not rest until every key issue of my members is resolved.
I along with my Executive Committee members look forward to your continuous support in our efforts to protect the interests of our industry.
